After a quick lunch (kiddie bar!), I get to teach the Gothic Novel & Horror Fiction class in that groovy classroom (the Incubator Classroom). It was put together by Menko Johnson and Trent Tanaka, both of whom have been stolen away by Stanford just up 280 a few miles. Because of budget cuts, we no longer have an Instructional Technologist for the room. They’ve managed to coddle together a string of IT help while faculty are in the room but it’s not clear what’s going to happen next year. The room is gorgeous, just gorgeous. The students absolutely love the fact that they receive a PC or a Mac when they enter the room. It’s wireless on a server exclusive to the room, and there are 3 screens at the front. (See Schedule post.)

Typically, all 25 students show up. They’re a lively, active bunch and post often in the social forum on Moodle. However, today with St. Patrick’s Day the previous night and big mid-terms all week, we had a slightly less excited showing to discuss Vernon Lee. Though students are not required to use technology for their presentations, they always opt to take advantage of the room. Today was no exception. The presentation focused on musicality and eroticism in Lee’s “The Wicked Voice.”
