I recently gave a talk on a panel sponsored by the Digital Arts and Humanities Working Group at The Ohio State University regarding my XML-based composition class, and I thought it worthwhile to post the script here on HASTAC. While working on a project to design games that promote healthy behaviors, I got interested in the idea of virtual coaching, which uses an avatar to communicate with users on computer or mobile devices. It is often to serve education or persuasion purpose, e.g., help people learn about a topic in an interactive way, or to encourage people to engage in certain behavior. I've read some works from Prof. Timothy Bickmore that focus on desgining for better interaction experience between human user and avators.
